The Utah iPhone Developer Group will be meeting next Thursday, January 28 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at SEO.com.

Food sponsored by XMission.
If you are an iPhone developer, or are interested in creating a new application for the world’s most popular portable platform, please come; all are invited. This is an exciting time for iPhone development, and it need not be highlighted that our meeting is planned one day after Apple’s Special Event on Wednesday (The rumor mill is talking tablets and 4.0), so we should have plenty to talk about and some exciting things to contemplate for our next year of development and marketing.
We’ll start the year with a technical presentation by Zach Holmquist (@zholmquist). Zach will be going over the use of Appcelerator’s Titanium to build native iPhone Apps using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. He will be going over the basics of Titanium, as well as an in-depth build of an application. We are in discussions with a few other exciting presenters; stay tuned for details.
SEO.com has generously offered their spacious meeting room as our meeting place. Near the Point of the Mountain at Bluffdale (just off 146th south), we think this is a great spot to serve both Salt Lake and Utah Counties. Here’s a map to their office: http://bit.ly/5ktlX9 (Basically; head to the Point, get off at the ‘prison exit’, head West and take the first left onto the frontage road. Turn in at the first right and park as close to the SEO.com sign as you can.)
A big thank you to XMission for offering the food and drinks for this meeting. They are a great supporter of the local tech community. They recently launched a new hosting service, Stackable.com. It’s a great way to quickly get servers spun up with everything you need to run your site.
As always, this is a great opportunity to network with other iPhone developers so bring your friends and co-workers interested in learning more about iPhone development and connecting with other developers.
We have announced our next meeting. Here are the details.
For those of you who are already working on iPhone apps, this is a great way to connect with the local iPhone developer community. If you are just getting started, or looking for resources to get your idea off the drawing board, come and interact with many of the leading app developers featured in iTunes. All are welcome.
Join us for the 2nd Utah iPhone developers meetup.
The first meeting was very well attended with over 60 people and standing room only.
For this meeting we have gotten a much larger room so we can all fit more comfortably.
DETAILS: Thursday July 9th at 6:30pm at the Technology Center at Novell, Building ‘A’
We have two terrific presenters scheduled for this meeting. Each has outstanding experience with leading apps in iTunes. We’ll hear about marketing iPhone apps as well as a summary from the recent Apple Developer Conference. We’ll be discussing the new iPhone 3.0, 3Gs, and the latest APIs.
- Evhret Milam – Creator of Green Wars for iPhone and one of the top teams in the Omniture/BYU iPhone application contests.
- Michael Alvarez – Creator of Showtimes and Yellow Pages Directory and a few others. As you can see from his wall post they now have over 2 million downloads.
Big thanks to Zagg for providing food for this event and UVEF for the facilities.
RSVP on Facebook. We look forward to seeing you all there.
For those of you heading off to the Apple Developer Conference; Have a great trip!
We are planning another Utah iPhone Developer Group meeting shortly after the Apple event. We hope to feature another couple of great speakers in a workshop environment as well as a DevConf overview and debrief.
If you are going to the event and would like to give us a short report, please let me know.
AppleInsider is reporting that Standford’s iPhone development podcast has been downloaded over one million times. Wow; sounds like this market is really heating up.
I wanted to post this specifically to alert anyone who hasn’t seen the Stanford podcast. It is free, and available in iTunes University.
New Utah iPhone developers appearing in our Directory. Check ‘em out and add your own.
Thanks for participating, everyone.
We held our first Utah iPhone Developer Group meeting tonight. We had a terrific turnout of about 65 people.
Jason Izatt and Steve Moon presented. FamilyLink provided pizza, and the Novell Technology Center provided the digs. A good time was had by all.
Thank you to everyone who attended.
If anyone has photos from tonight’s event, please let me know and I will post them here.
